AwardGuru Unlock and opti-maxi-mize the value of your miles and points…

Perennial question – what is the best card to apply?

Many folks frequently ask me - what is the best card to apply?

My answer to that is simple two words - it depends. It depends on various factors and varies from person to person. Someone may value hard cash back more than miles or points (I know many such people) and for some, miles and points may be more valuable. It really depends on what kind of person you are, what you value and what your goals are from that credit card. It makes no sense to recommend a miles earning card to someone who does not fly at all! And it makes no sense to recommend a simple 1% cash back card with no annual fee to someone who flies very often as there certainly are better cards out there.

If you need my suggestions, please post your requirement from this one card and I will be able to recommend something to you, that you can gain something out of. I firmly believe that there is one card out there made for you, no matter what your goals are but no real "one size fits all" type of card. Ofcourse, your expectations have to be real and practical, Gone are the days when we had Thank You Rewards fixed point redemptions.

  1. Thanks for the posts – I found it very informative. Keep up the good work.

One question I have always had is how this affects the credit score. I know that applying for a credit card has a hit on the score. With so many credit card deals out there, how do I best choose cards that has the least impact on the credit score? Are there strategies that I need to follow to ensure that I don’t too negatively impact the credit? Can you add a post that explains this. I would appreciate it a lot.
